Member of the Bank of Albania Supervisory Council. In July 2019 Malaj publicly alleged that Socialist MP Taulant Balla sent him threats after he refused Balla's interventions in the selection processes for the Bank of Albania board, including an SMS with party recommendations. The Socialist majority then sought his dismissal for alleged breaches of the Bank's ethics code; the request was signed by 28 Socialist deputies, according to Shqiptarja (16 Jul 2019).
